Rev 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
In ancient days it was often thought the sun and other celestial bodies were gods and are worshipped as such. A modern remain of such worship is astrology. The ancient used similar language as the verse when speaking about solar and lunar eclipses.
Less sunlight, for extended duration, will have its impact on earth's vegetation. Combined with the previous trumpets that also had a huge impact on nature the planets ability to support life must have severely decreased by now. Large scale famine and diseases are very realistic to expect at this point.
In the Hebrew mind the sun is symbol of God. Gives warmth, light and gives life (plant growth). Note the word 'symbol'. This isn't about seeing the sun as an actual God. The moon is a symbol for mankind that can only reflect God's glory but has none of its own. In Rev 7:1, just after the 6th seal, we saw the angels restraining God's glory; this trumpet seems to describe a similar thing. God's blessings are further withheld. The following verses summarize quite well what happened so far.
Isa 13:6-
A third of the sun
Malachi 4:2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings....
It's clear that that sun is symbolic because a literal sun is dead object that is neither good nor evil. Jesus had healing in His wings
Micah 2:13. The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them
Sheep were often kept behind stone wall. In the morning the breaker (shepherd) removed some stones so the sheep can storm/break out into the field.
Malachi 4:2 .... And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.
The animals are released by the shepherd/king. It can be debated what the sun exactly represents. The Son, the Father, blessings of Father/Son etc., but it’s clear the sun is positive and linked to holiness. I think it represents God's Word/Teachings/Gospel in this context. Satan keep increasingly suppressing the truth by injecting false doctrine so that the sun shines 1/3 less. Less sun is more darkness. More darkness is more deception. The sun represents Jesus.
2Thessalonians 2:9-
They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”
A third of the moon
The moon which is also called the lesser light reflects the glory of the sun. The reflected glory is the law. So the law will be reduced. Less law is more rebellion. And very likely holy feasts will be corrupted of totally cancelled.
The moon reflects the light of the sun. With the sun partly blocked out the moon can no longer fully ‘radiate the law’.
Daniel 7:25 "He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws. The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time."
Note: No saints are raptured yet.
Third of the stars turns dark
Angels are servant of the Light/God. When they follow satan they turn dark/to darkness. Simply put a third of the angels will team up with satan.
A third of the day and the night are without light
This is basically a summary of the above. Less sunlight during the day and less moonlight during the night. Symbolically speaking of course.
John 9:4-
1) “The day” means the time when those “of the light” can work (evangelize).
2) “The night” means the time when those “of the light" will NOT be able to work.
3) “Of the light” refers to those who have the Holy Spirit within them.
4) “Of the darkness” refers to those who follow or have a demonic spirit.
The three woes
The woe, woe, woe is the sound of the eagle telling us the 3 trumpet of the evening service will follow soon.
Rev 8:13 And I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a great voice, Woe, woe, woe, for them that dwell on the earth, by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, who are yet to sound.
Deuteronomy 28:49-
The eagle's attack symbolizes a nation attacking Israel. Let's join the evening service. The 3.5 reign of satan
This conclude the Temple’s morning service. Even greater horror follows during the three woes of the evening service.
