Seal 3. Black horse – Famine

Rev 6:5-6 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and see a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the middle of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see you hurt not the oil and the wine.

Famine likely caused as an aftermath of war and collapsed economic/trade systems.

Matt 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Unfortunately this is just the beginning of trouble.

Mark 13:5-8 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. (White horse) When you hear of wars and rumors of wars (Red horse), do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines (Black horse). These are the beginning of birth pains. (Pale horse)

Galatians 4:19-20 “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you…”

The above verses seem to say the belief in Christ will be born in Israel during these times of trouble.

A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny;

Wheat is 3x as expensive as barley. Differences in prices are an economic law of supply and demand. Barley grows much better under non ideal circumstances like drought that will occur during the time of the 2 witnesses.

Revelation 11:6 “These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.”
