In the land of… and other objections

This page answers a few common objection

1. In the land of…

Exod 18:27 And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

Num 10:29 And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father in law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come you with us, and we will do you good: for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel.

Num 10:30 And he said to him, I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my kindred.

Num 10:31 And he said, Leave us not, I pray you; for as much as you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you may be to us instead of eyes.

Both Jethro and Raguel wanted to return to their own land, Midian. That proves mt. Sinai wasn’t in Midian. Or doesn’t it…?

Gen 47:5 And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, Your father and your brothers are come to you:

Gen 47:6 The land of Egypt is before you; in the best of the land make your father and brothers to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if you know any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

Gen 47:11 And Joseph placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

Land of Goshen = Land of Rameses

Exod 9:25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

Exod 9:26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.

Gen 50:7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

Gen 50:8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brothers, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

‘Land of Goshen/Rameses’ is an region/province in Egypt. Not a different country.

Num 32:1 Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle. And when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle,

1Kgs 9:11 (Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

1Sam 9:16 To morrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked on my people, because their cry is come to me.

‘Land of …’ are provinces/tribal area’s of Israel. Not different countries.

Conclusion: Returning to your own land very often means your own tribal area.

2. Out of the land of Egypt

Exod 12:43 And LORD said to Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the Passover. There shall no foreigner eat of it,

Exod 12:51 And it came to pass the selfsame day, that Jehovah did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

Based on that verse it’s often claimed Sinai Peninsula can’t be part of Greater Egypt because, obviously, there is no way the Israelites could have crossed it in one day; so the Egypt excluded Sinai Peninsula.

The answer is very similar to that presented in section 1.

What part of Egypt we are talking about?

Ezek 20:36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, said the Lord GOD.

Judg 11:16 But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness to the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;

They had to walk through the wilderness to reach the Red Sea. That means the Red Sea isn’t on the border of Egypt

"a long and desolate journey through the wilderness, destitute of any beaten road, at last arrived at the sea which is called the Red Sea"

Philo

Less than a single day doesn’t qualify as a long journey. Egypt wasn’t destitute of roads.
